About us

Made by a son and his dad.

We're Chris and Randy. We make Salt of the Page: one desk for the whole writing life, from the first line of the book to the newsletter that tells everyone it's out.

Why it’s called Salt of the Page

Every story starts past the last lighthouse.

This is the story that opens the app the first time you launch it. It’s also the best way we know to explain the name.

  1. The edge of the map

    Past the last lighthouse.

There’s an island at the end of a dotted line. A long wooden dock, a trading post, and a seaplane that brings the mail every Tuesday and Thursday. A writer keeps a desk out here.

  2. Part one · Salt

    Salt is the adventure.

Sea spray on your face. Islands nobody has named yet. The storm you barely outran and the sunrise that made it worth it. Salt is everything worth telling somebody about.

  3. Part two · The page

The page is where it lands.

A chapter. A logbook entry. A blog post. A letter riding out on the morning plane. Ideas roll in with the tide, and the page is where you catch them.

  4. The afternoon it happened

Then the wind took a page.

It looped over the reef, skimmed a wave and came back crusted with salt. The writer read it again. It was better. Bolder. Truer. It tasted like the island.

  5. The secret

    A pinch changes everything.

The salt of the earth are the real ones. The salt of the page are the words that bite: the detail, the voice, the flavor that makes a reader lean in and forget the time.

  6. Where stories come to life

    Your page is waiting.

The tide’s in. The desk is ready. Bring the salt.

What we believe

The rules we build by.

  • Never lose a word.

Every edit is saved on your device within two seconds, then synced. Chapter history restores in two clicks.

  • The AI assists. It never ghostwrites.

Bring your own AI or leave it off. Nothing goes into your book unless you put it there.

  • Buy it once.

$150 and it’s yours. Or $10 a month for every new feature as it ships. No credits, no meters.

  • Your words are yours.

Your manuscript never trains an AI, and you can download everything, any time.

  • One desk for the whole job.

The book, its design, the blogs, the newsletters and the calendar, in one place, on every device.

  • Fair about the competition.

We compare ourselves honestly and say plainly where other apps are stronger.

A note from Chris and Randy

Dear writer,

We're a son and his dad, and we built Salt of the Page to be the desk we wanted: somewhere quiet to write the book, see it become a real book, and keep the blog and the newsletter going long after launch day.

We kept the AI on a short leash on purpose. It's there to keep the ideas coming when you're stuck, never to write the book for you. The story should sound like you.

If something's missing, or something gets in your way, write to us. We read every message, and we write back.

See you at the desk,

Chris & Randy
